Star Trails Big Bend National Park

Behind the shot

One cool aspect of time-lapse photography is being able to show the movement of the sky at night as the Earth rotates. The shot above is commonly referred to as “star trails” and is created by taking same shot over and over and over, etc. You typically need to shoot for a good hour or so to have decent length on your trails. The software takes all of the photos and selects the brightest pixels from each photo and then combines it into one image.
